How it started
Hi! I’m Julia - welcome to Bakes by J!
Baking has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. From the moment I could peek over the kitchen counter in my childhood home, I was experimenting with recipes and perfecting my craft. In the early days, I leaned on the wisdom of Duncan Hines and Betty Crocker to master the basics. Over time, I graduated to creating homemade treats from scratch - cakes, cupcakes, brownies, pies, cookies - you name it, with my homemade desserts quickly became staples at family gatherings, wine nights, tailgates, holiday celebrations, office events, and beyond.
In high school, I honed my skills while working at a local bakery on the South Shore, soaking up everything I could from an amazing team of seasoned bakers. Later, I earned a B.S. in Business Administration and Economics from Babson College, where my passion for entrepreneurship truly flourished. It was there that I realized my dream of opening my own bakery wasn’t just a distant goal, but well within my reach.
While pursuing my MBA, I realized it was the perfect time to combine my business expertise, entrepreneurial spirit, and lifelong passion for baking into a venture that brings me true joy. Life is too short not to pursue what you love, and for me, that’s baking. It brings a sense of joy and fulfillment that my corporate life simply cannot match. Though I love baking just about anything, cookies have always been my favorite. They’re more than just a treat - they’re a simple yet meaningful gesture, a hostess essential, and guaranteed to bring a smile to anyone who tries them. And so, Bakes by J was born, with my signature chocolate chip cookies taking center stage as the stars of the menu!
